Description
Family Music from Jason Upton and the Goodland Band, is a honing signal to our hearts, calling us home. On the surface, this simple collection of songs is written by and for families: moms, dads, kids, grandparents and the periphery. At the same time, it is a collection of journal entries about the mystery of trusting Jesus in our day-to-day lives: the worship of our day-to-day lives: to be present. To trust Jesus with ALL of our life is to worship Him, in Spirit and in Truth. Whether it’s the upbeat remembrance of a father and son bike ride in “Look at that Dog” or the first trip to the “Doctor”, the songs on Family Music beckon us to be present in our day-to-day lives. With every song, we are confronted with Jesus’ command to be “perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
Jesus wants us to be whole. He wants us to engage with ALL of life, not just one or two parts. It’s family. It’s music. It’s worship. It’s the act and expression of worship; it’s spirit and truth. It’s the opposite of dualism. It’s our whole life: ALL of it. Church services and changing dirty diapers… Singing hymns and walking dogs… Reading scripture and taking out the trash… ALL of it. So, with the entire activity of our lives as the verses and our expression to God as the chorus, Jason Upton and the Goodland Band give us Family Music: a simple collection of songs inviting us into the whole, yet uncertain, life of following Jesus.
